This tournament is for NBA JAM Tournament Edition (TE). It is played on the Sega Genesis. 

2. Format

This is a 1 V 1 tournament, not 2 V 2. ​

3. GAME SETTINGS
  • Timer Speed: 3

  • Drone Difficulty: 3

  • Tag Mode: On 

  • Computer Assistance: Off

  • Controller Config: A shoot, B turbo, C pass

  • Tournament Mode: On (no secret codes or secret players)

  • Shot Clock: 24 seconds

  • Overtime: 3 minutes

  • Hot Spots: Off

  • Power Icons: Off

  • Juice Mode: Off

4. BLIND DRAW

Brackets will be complete using a "blind draw". A blind draw tournament is organized in a way that the players are not ranked based on previous results or experience. the brackets are complete solely based on the luck of the draw.

5. TEAM SELECTION & COIN TOSS

A manual coin flip will precede each game. The coin flip winner can choose the "matchup"  or defer the matchup choice to the coin flip loser.  A "matchup" is defined as the two teams to play in the game.

CHOOSE OR DEFER

a. If the winner chooses the matchup, the winner is given the player one controller, and the loser chooses his choice of the two teams in the matchup.

b. If the winner defers the matchup choice, the winner is given the player two controller, the loser will then choose the matchup and the winner will select his choice of the two teams.

 

Example: 

The winner of the coin flip chooses Cavs -  Celtics as the "matchup" and takes player one controller. The loser takes player two controller and select his choice of the two teams first, in the "matchup".

 

6."ONE MATCHUP ONCE" RULE

The coin flip winner can only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For example, if Player A wins the toss and selects Cavs -  Celtics, player A cannot call that exact matchup for the rest of the tournament. Player B, however, is free to select that matchup later in the tournament

7. CONTROLLERS

All controllers will be classic 3-button Genesis controllers.

8. PAUSING

If you must pause, you must clear it with your opponent and only when you have possession. 1st pause without notice is a warning, 2nd is an automatic 2-pt score from opponent, 3rd is potential forfeit of match. 

9. SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS

No emulation is used. If game/system malfunctions during game play, users record the current score of completed quarters and play remaining quarters. For example: game malfunctions in middle of 3rd quarter, users play 2 quarters again. 

10. CONTROLLERS

No turbo or 6-button controllers. 

11. TOURNAMENT DISPUTES

Tournament referees decide all disputes. 

12. TAMPERING

Participants are not allowed to hook up streaming or recording devices to any system that is in play during the tournament. Those caught doing so will be immediately removed from the tournament.

13. BROKEN RULES/RIGHTS OF OFFICIALS

Any broken rules  will be left to the judges to deem consequence. Typically, first offense is a warning, a second is a reduction in score, a third will be forfeiture of the game and fourth banned from the tournament.

 

Tournament officials reserve the right to change, update, clarify, add or subtract rules, if deemed necessary.
